Race for the Cure - 18 May 2008
Stadio alle Terme di Caracalla The annual event that combines sport, entertainment and awareness is back: Race for the Cure aims to increase knowledge about, and funding for, the fight against breast cancer.
Maria Grazia Cucinotta is once again the event's mascot but the real protagonists - who stand out in their pink T-shirts and hats - are the women who have struggled and won their battle against cancer.
Participants can opt either for the 5km mini-marathon or the 2-km walk, and follow it up by visiting the sponsors' stands and accompanying children to the playground area...
Anyone who decides to take part in the 2008 race will receive a T-shirt, a bag filled with gadgets, and above all, they will know that they have contributed to fund several initiatives: the "Prevention Village" (where socially-disadvantaged women are offered free diagnosis); training courses for health workers working in the sector of breast pathologies; education programmes for the prevention of the disease among women and students; clinical services for the physical and psychological well-being of women who have undergone breast operations; new apparatus and machinery to diagnose and treat women with the disease...
34.000 people enrolled in the Race for the Cure in 2007. Let's hope it's even more this year... | |
